Greg Bovino Loses His Job

Top Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino and some of his agents are expected to leave Minneapolis on Tuesday and return to their respective sectors, according to three sources familiar the discussions, sidelining a key player in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

He has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change.

n a sign of a softer tone from President Donald Trump on the crackdown, the US leader has scaled back federal presence in Minneapolis and replaced Bovino with his border czar, Tom Homan.

Noem and Chief Advisor Corey Lewandowski met with Trump for almost two hours on Monday, according to the New York Times.

It was at her request, according to the Times, and her job reportedly isn't in jeopardy.

 Since President Donald Trump was inaugurated for his second term in office in January 2025, Bovino has been the face of CBP — specifically during the ongoing mass-deportation efforts. Over the last several months, Bovino has been seen traveling with Border Patrol agents assisting the Department of Homeland Security’s ICE raids, which included raids in Southern California.
